The are looking for a sponsoring organization for Cub Scouts (K-5th grades) Pack 82 and Boy Scouts Troop 82. They were being sponsored by Grace Church in Cape Coral but the church is no longer involved with Scouting. There would be no financial obligation on our club's part and we could be as little or as much involved as we want. Scouts would be available to help us with our projects, and we could help with theirs. They would help promote our club abd we would do the same for them.
The Boy Scouts of America allows chartered organizations to select adult leaders, continuing Scouting's long-standing policy of chartered organizations selecting their leaders. This allows Scouting's members and parents to select local units, chartered to organizations with similar beliefs, that best meet the needs of their families. This change also respects the right of religious chartered organizations to continue to choose adult leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own.
Scouting will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth to help them grow into good, strong citizens.
President Harris said the club would didcuss the proposal and we would get back to them next week.
Agenda items:
President Harris reminded everyone that the Florida Kiwanis District Convention (DCon) will be held August 4th - 7th at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. The tentative schedule can befound here Please note that there is nothing of consequence going on on the 4th so we will begin attending on Friday, August 5th. We have 7 members signed up to attend. Kathy and Harris will be Delegates-At-Large and Ruth Ann, John and Lindsey will be Delegates.
Past Lt Governor Tina Pegler noted that there will be a special social event for all Division 19 attendees.
President Harris reported that the first order of books for next year's Reading Rocks were delivered to Kiwanis Hall last week. Jim said that he had not received the Purchase Order for the second set. Harris said he would check and forward it right away.
Since we have received our licences for Edison Kiwanis Hall, we look forward to having the water turned on and the sign hung as soon as John returns. Because of the amount of traffic on Victoria, President Harris feels the sign will be a great marketing tool
Club Leadership Education Training will be held July 30th from 10am - 1 pm for all incoming Division 19 club officers and Board members at:
Cape Coral Special Populations Building
400 Santa Barbara Blvd
Cape Coral 33991
Morning coffee and refreshments and a Jason's Deli indoor picnic lunch will be provided. This is a great opportunity for networking with FLA Kiwanis Division 19 current and incoming officers and board members $10
Jim thompson made a motion that the club pay the gegistraion fee for any club member attending. Kathy Woolston seconded it. The motion passed on a voice vote.
For the 14th or 15th yuear in a row, our club will be collecting, storing and re-distributing gifts for The NBC2 Giving Tree. President Harris will cointact Waterman Broadcasting to get the exact timeline. Lindsey suggested we also talk to them about limiting the number of requests for gift cards.

Meals On Wheels route this week was covered by Jim who took over at the last moment when Harris had to tke his wife to the doctor. Our route currently delivers to 17 people with 15 of them getting two meals (Wednesday and Thursday) and one getting only one for Wednesday and one getting only one for Thursday. This makes the service a little more complicated and challenging for the driver, so we could really use a second volunteer to ride long. If you are interested, please contact Harris.
President harris placed an order for 100 World Atlases for North Fort Myers Academy.
and 75 for Tice Elementary.
President Harris suggested that we need to start planning and setting dates for the following three activities:
- Installation Banquet
- Kiwanis One Day
- Holiday Party
Past Lt. Governor Tina announced that items were still need for the Caring Corner gift basket that will be auctioned off at the District Conventio.Donations can be dropped off to Tina at The Boy Scouts building across from Sam Galloway Ford
